OTHERS WHO IMMIGRATED

I am not aware of any descendants of Jean Gaspard Rhein, born 1595 in Saverne, low Alsace, and of his first son, Wolfgang Rhein born 1628 in Saverne, other than Joseph Rhein, my grandfather, born April 13, 1866 in Herrlisheim, that may have immigrated to the United States. I suspect that there were others.

In addition to Louise Laeng, my grandmother, born May 15, 1866, I am aware of the following descendants of Dorsch Laeng and Marie Anne Nonner that immigrated to the United States.

Jean Michel Laeng, born March 6, 1783 and his children: Maria Louise, born January 24, 1828, Marcus born April 25, 1831, and Balbine, born April 25, 1835. They arrived Port of New Orleans, Tuesday, December 28, 1847 on the ship Aurelius, Crocker as ship’s Master, after a 46-day voyage from Le Havre.

Jean Michael Laeng, born July 17, 1817, brother of Marcus, married to a Margaret (nee unknown), is residing in Venice Township, Seneca County, Ohio in 1880. Michael Laeng was in Ohio as early as 1861

Jean Baptiste Laeng, born September 14, 1823, brother of Marcus. He may be the Jean Baptiste Laeng who arrived Port of New York, November 2, 1839, on the ship Atalanta from Le Havre. Final destination is listed as Indiana.

Marie Louise Laeng, born January 24, 1828, sister of Marcus, was a sponsor at the baptism of Maria Louisa Hentgen, daughter of John Baptiste Hentgen and Salome Kistler at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Pittsburgh on November 26, 1854.

Jacques Laeng, born September 18, 1858 who arrived in the United States about 1881. He is the brother of Louise Laeng, born May 15, 1866. He was a member of the Congregation of the Benedictine Order at St. Meinrad, Indiana, (Brother Ferdinand) and is buried there.

Alexandre Laeng, born August 8, 1860, married to Louise Metz in Herrlisheim, arrived in the United States in 1888 and settled in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.

Descendants of Daniel Kistler, born 1625.

Salome Kistler, born April 24, 1827, and her brother, Michael Kistler, born 1831, children of Joseph Kistler and Catherine Alt, arrived Port of New Orleans, Tuesday, December 28, 1847 on the ship Aurelius. They were traveling with Jean Michael Laeng and his children. Salome (Sarah) Kistler, age 24 from Germany, is residing with Paul Hugus, a dry goods merchant, and his family in Ward 4, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1850. She was a sponsor at the baptism of her niece, Salome Durrstein at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church in Pittsburgh on August 10, 1851. She married Johannes Baptiste Hentgen at St. Philomena on February 23, 1854.

Beatrix Mary Kistler, sister of Salome and Michael, born December 28, 1828, immigrated (date unknown) and settled initially in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania where she married Jacob Durrstein on August 8, 1850 at St. Philomena Catholic Church. He was born July 26, 1826 in Westhoffen, Bas-Rhin. They moved later to Marathon, Wisconsin where she died December 11, 1879.

Descendant of Michel Gross, born 1757.

Mathias Gross, born January 19, 1825, grandson of Michel, arrived Port of New York on June 3, 1853 on the ship Franchise, William F. Robinson as ship’s master, from Le Havre. He settled in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey.

Descendants of Georg Pfaadt, born 1642.

Jacques Pfaadt, born January 19, 1861 and Ignace Pfaadt, born March 8, 1866, brothers and the 4th great-grandsons of Greorg Pfaadt. They resided initially in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and settled later in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.

Descendants of Valentine Lutz, born about 1625 in Hagenbiten, Alsace.

Antoine Lutz, 4th great grandson of Valentine, born 1824 in Herrlisheim, came to the United States and in 1860 is residing in Sharpsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania with his wife Catherine (nee unknown), and children; Catherine, Barbara, Christina, Joseph and Julian all born in the United States.
